WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- With the upcoming season less than a month away, Palm Beach Atlantic University softball coach Kimmy Bloemers continues to stockpile talent for the coming years with the addition of top-notch talent. One of those talented signees comes in the form of West Nassau High School product Erica Walters.
A dual-position threat as both a catcher and an outfielder, Walters is one of four total early signings for second-year head coach Kimmy Bloemers.
A four-year letter winner at WNHS in Callahan, Florida, Walters brings to Palm Beach Atlantic not only a love for the game but a strong skill set to back it up. While competing on the diamond, Walters was named an All Area and All County selection during her time in the prep ranks.
Adding talented players who excel on and off the field is exactly what Bloemers feels she has found in Walters.
“Erica is a team leader as well as a hard worker and will do whatever it takes to win a ball game. I am confident that Erica will do very well behind the plate and lead us to some great wins at PBA,” said Bloemers.
Not only a standout on the softball diamond, Walters also spent time on the basketball and volleyball courts during her high school years, while earning even more accolades. On the hardwood, Walters was named the three-point district champion while also earning All-County recognition.
An obviously gifted all-around athlete, perhaps her highest high school athletic award surrounded the fact that Walters earned the coveted “Warrior Award” for all three varsity sports she competed in during her athletic career.
Not just a standout in athletics, Walters also has proven successful in the classroom as she was named a Scholar-Athlete as well as being named the State Farm Sportsmanship award winner at West Nassau High School. Meshing well with the mission of other PBA student-athletes, Walters was also an active elementary school volunteer while also spending time as a sports camp counselor at Callahan Middle School.
With her high school career now near completion, Walters will begin her first semester at PBA in the fall of 2008.
