INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team will make their second trip in program history to the NCAA postseason after being named on Monday morning as one of eight teams to make the Division II South Regional Tournament. The Sailfish will travel to the University of Tampa for a four-team regional tournament on May 9-11 as they will open play against No. 3-seed Valdosta State University at 3 pm on Friday, May 9.

The Sailfish (30-14) and Blazers (40-13) met earlier this season when Palm Beach Atlantic knocked off then No. 6-ranked Valdosta State by a score of 1-0 on February 9th at the Eckerd College Tournament.

The two teams have some postseason history as well with the ‘Fish and Blazers meeting in 2010 at the regional tournament hosted by Valdosta. PBA was in the midst of their first-ever postseason run and played the No. 2-ranked Blazers in the regional championship.

Valdosta State earned the No. 3-seed as an automatic qualifier this season after winning their sixth straight Gulf South Conference Tournament championship over the weekend.

The top two seeds from the South Region earned hosting designation for the pair of regional tournaments.

The No. 1-seed is the University of Alabama-Huntsville (43-9) who will open with the No. 8-seed in Tuskegee University (29-14) who earned the automatic qualifying bid from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). The No. 2-seed is the University of Tampa (31-6) who will open play against No. 7-seed Delta State (30-29) at the Tampa Regional.

If PBA defeats Valdosta State in their opening round contest they will play the winner of Tampa and Delta State at 12 pm on Saturday, May 10th. If they were to lose their first-round matchup they would take on the other losing team at 3 pm on Saturday.

The championship segment of the tournament will take place beginning at 12 pm on Sunday.

All games will take place at the Naimoli Family Softball Field.
